In 2015 Tony Reynes and I teamed up in the photo educational world co-hosting photo walks and classes in the photo conference arena. Originally Tony took on the role of "Bird dog" or the guy who found and pointed out the shots, I took on the technical role, or how to set up your camera and other gear to record and maximize the shot that He or I pointed out. While either of us, individually could handle the task of hosting and teaching, together we naturally complemented each other even though we took different treks to get there. Tony and I have had a lot of very different and unique experiences in our life. Even our physical ages are different as he was born WAAAY sooner than me. (Think Flintstones) Tony started out in New England and I grew up in the Midwest. Oddly enough we both ended in different departments of the Navy. Tony was part of surface warfare like destroyers and cruisers. I ended in the Men's Department also known as the Marine Corps. After the Navy, Tony spent most of his career in consulting for big marketing and advertising companies, and, after the Marines, I was running or building massive distribution networks then eventually I bought and ran a camera store. Philosophically, we totally sync; we see the beauty in life, look for the fun side of everything, and try very hard to never take ourselves too seriously. Of course, then there is our love of photography, teaching through post-processing, and, making sure whatever we teach is experience-proven. We further believe that learning adheres better when the environment is fun with as much one-on-one personalization as possible. In our workshops, we strive to balance the hovering teacher with the shepherding teacher. Somewhere in that mix is the right place for our participants. Ranging from a simple nudge towards a shot, or full-blown, hand-holding, and directing the flow of information until the task, or lesson in grasp. Which is different for everyone.
Then there's 2020, Like the irreverent "Step-In-Laws" or a scene out of a bad movie, an uninvited guest shows up and creates havoc and chaos. With COVID keeping us locked down to where we live, we are very frustrated, just like you are. We'd be lying if we said we don't sneak out and shoot every now and then, but we can't travel far or be in groups. Personal safety must come first. We can't tell you definitively when we can travel or stay out of town. Thus far we have had to cancel one of our three upcoming workshops and postponed another. However, after much discussion and planning, we think we have a solution to keep you learning, keep us sharp, and constantly stoke the fires of creativity.
Our short-term answer is to teach online. It is safe, it is flexible and the costs are on a pay-as-you-go basis.
